Diljit Dosanjh’s Dil-Luminati tour opened its India shows in Delhi on 26 and 27 October 2024 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. The shows were a big moment for fans, but the evening was also about long queues, traffic jams and a debate about ticket prices. This article gathers what was reported, in order, and ends with practical advice for anyone going to a big concert.

The short version
- When and where: 26 and 27 October 2024, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Delhi.
- Crowd: estimates ranged from about 30,000 to 60,000 people, depending on the report. The stadium holds more than 60,000.
- Traffic: long jams around the stadium. One commuter said the stretch from the Lodhi Road flyover to Chirag Delhi took two hours.
- Tickets: demand was so high that a second date was added, and some people complained about prices and availability.
Opening night
After the first show, Diljit shared photos on Instagram. One showed him holding the national flag on stage. He captioned the post with a line from one of his songs about leaving his mark on Delhi. Fans filled the comments with praise. Reports said the show began about an hour later than planned, around 7:50 pm, after fans had queued outside for a long time. Several social media personalities were spotted in the audience.

The traffic problem
Delhi Traffic Police had issued an advisory before the shows. It asked people to use public transport as much as possible, to park only at the designated lots, and it restricted heavy vehicles on parts of BP Marg between 4 pm and 11 pm on both days. Even so, social media was full of posts from people stuck on the roads. Among them, Zomato founder Deepinder Goyal posted a video on Instagram showing the heavy traffic on his way to the venue.
The ticket row
The first Delhi show sold out very quickly and a second show was added. Late in the sale, only lounge tickets were reported to be left, priced at roughly ₹32,000 to ₹60,000. A Delhi law student sent a legal notice to the organisers, claiming that ticket availability was handled in a way that pushed prices up. Her notice also named several companies linked to the sale. At the time of the report, the organisers had not responded. This was an allegation, and we do not know the final outcome from the sources we checked.
Why ticket prices rise so fast
When a famous artist plays only a few shows, demand is far greater than seats. Some platforms use “dynamic pricing”, where the price rises as tickets sell. Others see tickets resold at much higher prices on unofficial sites. Consumer groups and regulators in several countries have asked for clearer rules, so buyers know the real price early.
How to plan for a big concert
- Use the metro. Roads near big venues are slow. Check the last metro time and the nearest station before you go.
- Buy only from the official seller. Fake tickets and screenshots are common. Check the booking in the official app.
- Arrive early. Entry gates take time, and bag rules can be strict.
- Charge your phone and carry a small power bank. Your ticket QR code is on it.
- Agree a meeting place with friends, as mobile networks get overloaded in a crowd.
- Look after your health. Carry water if allowed, and know where the nearest exit and first-aid point are.
The bigger picture
Live music is a fast-growing business in India. Big shows bring money for cities and jobs for thousands of workers. They also test roads, security and ticketing systems. Many fans say better planning, honest pricing and good public transport will decide whether more international-scale tours come to India.
Questions to think about
- Should ticket prices be capped or must they be shown clearly from the start of the sale?
- How can cities handle traffic when 30,000 or more people arrive at one venue together?
- Have you ever been caught in a traffic jam or crowd problem at a big event? What would have helped?
