India’s biggest IPO has had its first day on the market. Shares of Jio Platforms, trading under the symbol JPL, listed at ₹1,358 on both the NSE and BSE on Wednesday, October 28, 2026. That is 21.36% above the issue price of ₹1,119, a gain of ₹239 a share for anyone who was allotted stock.
The morning began with a listing ceremony at the National Stock Exchange in Mumbai, where members of the Ambani family, including Mr. Mukesh Ambani, Mrs. Nita Ambani, Akash Ambani, Isha Ambani and Anant Ambani, rang the bell. It is the Reliance group’s first new listing in about two decades.
The bell-ringing ceremony and listing-day numbers
Congratulations to Jio Platforms Limited on getting listed on NSE.
— NSE India (@NSEIndia) October 28, 2026
NSE shared photos from the ceremony on its official X account (shown here). These are the numbers that mattered on listing day:
- Issue price: ₹1,119 (upper end of the ₹1,065–1,119 band)
- Listing price: ₹1,358 on NSE and BSE
- Listing gain: 21.36%, or ₹239 a share; ₹2,868 on one lot of 12 shares
- Issue size: about ₹30,200 crore (NSE puts it at ₹30,188 crore)
- Subscription: about 22 times overall, led by institutional investors
- Market value: about $131.5 billion on debut, making it India’s second most valuable listed company, according to news reports
In early trade, the stock stayed close to its listing price, at about ₹1,357 on NSE shortly after 10 am. Prices can move a lot on listing day, so check the live quote on the exchange website or your broker app.
Did the grey market get it right?
Before listing, unofficial grey market premium (GMP) estimates during the bidding week ranged roughly between ₹243 and ₹276 a share. The actual listing gain of ₹239 was close to the lower end of that range. GMP is unregulated and often misleading, but this time it pointed in the right direction.
What allottees can do now
- Check your demat account: shares were credited on October 27 for successful applicants.
- Know your tax: if you sell within 12 months, gains are short-term capital gains, taxed at 20% for listed equity shares. Held longer, gains above the yearly exemption are taxed at 12.5%.
- Decide on a plan, not a mood: some investors book part of the listing gain and hold the rest; others hold for the long term. Your goals and the rest of your portfolio should drive the choice.
If you did not get an allotment, the blocked amount should already be released. Our earlier guide explains how to check Jio IPO allotment status, and our Jio IPO explainer covers the issue in detail.

- Should retail investors get a bigger share of very large IPOs, given how many applied and missed out?
- Will Jio’s listing push other large Indian companies to list at home rather than abroad?
- Is a 21% listing gain a sign of fair pricing, or of an issue priced to please new investors?
