Posts on Instagram, X and Telegram this week claimed that a new yellow ₹1,000 note has been issued, some saying it will be available from November 15. On October 27, 2026, the government’s PIB Fact Check unit called the claim fake: the Reserve Bank of India has made no announcement about a new ₹1,000 note.
What PIB Fact Check said
FAKE ₹1,000 NOTE ALERT! Several social media posts claim that a new ₹1,000 note has been issued. This claim is fake.

The viral images show a yellow note, one version with a temple on it. PIB said the RBI has made no announcement about issuing a new ₹1,000 note, and asked people to check information only with official sources before sharing it. Any new banknote is announced by the RBI on its own website and through an official press release, never first through forwarded images.
Is the ₹1,000 note coming back?
There is no official sign of it. The old ₹1,000 note was withdrawn in the demonetisation of November 2016. The ₹2,000 note that replaced it as the highest denomination is also being withdrawn: RBI announced its withdrawal from circulation in May 2023, though it remains legal tender.
