Renault has announced that its new Duster Strong Hybrid gives 29 km/l, and the SUV launches in India on October 17, 2026. Bookings are open for ₹21,000, according to CarWale.
What we know
- Engine: a 1.8-litre petrol engine with two electric motors
- Power: 160 hp combined and 172 Nm of torque
- Battery: 1.4 kWh
- Claimed mileage: 29 km/l (ARAI-certified)
- Booking amount: ₹21,000, online or at dealerships
Renault has also said, as reported, that the hybrid is sold out for this calendar year.

What the price will be
The price is not announced yet and will be shared at launch. One outlet has guessed around ₹20 lakh ex-showroom, but that is only an expectation.
What does 29 km/l really mean?
ARAI numbers come from a standard test in controlled conditions. Real roads, traffic, air conditioning and driving style usually give a lower figure. For an idea of the difference, 1,000 km at 29 km/l needs about 34.5 litres of petrol, while at 20 km/l it needs 50 litres. Which one you get will depend on how and where you drive.

Questions to think about
- Is a higher upfront price worth it if the car saves fuel over the years?
- How much would you rely on a claimed mileage figure when choosing a car?
- Do hybrids make more sense than petrol or electric cars for your daily drive?
